Power First, Then Chairs
A 1" four-layer cube — short rib, potato, onion, char — built in the exact order Magic Box was built
He laid Magic Box, inside The Reef in downtown Los Angeles, in four deliberate stages: bespoke three-phase power and redundant multi-carrier network first; then inventory, tables and chairs before AV and rigging; then a trained, scalable vendor workforce instead of full-time staff; and only last the layer clients see.
Why this bite? Four layers in the order he built the venue: power, inventory, workforce, then the part guests see.
The Story
Most venues install the utilities when a client finally demands them, which is always too late, and Fernandez had spent a Melbourne rental career learning that order matters more than ambition. The bite is assembled bottom-up in four distinct strata and only reads correctly eaten whole, because the invisible layer at the base is the one holding the visible one up.
