A zero-proof seltzer-and-citrus glass with a handwritten card under it — the follow-up, not the pitch
"I call it my tickler file, because my mom did sales back in the day. She'd have a file for every day and put a note in the file date she wanted to follow up with somebody. Mine is really my database, and there's a couple thousand people in there now." And: "The gig workers out on the street are gonna become the marketing directors of tomorrow."
Why this cocktail? His mother's follow-up file, still running. Nothing in the glass, a real note underneath it.
The Story
He inherited the discipline from his mother's sales desk and turned it into a couple thousand names, and it pairs with the prediction he seems most certain about: the freelancer at the sampling table, whose name no client bothers to learn, is standing closest to where the culture actually is. So this glass has nothing in it to perform with — no proof, no color — and a handwritten note underneath with the date someone intends to call you back.

- 5 oz cold seltzer
- 0.75 oz fresh grapefruit juice
- 0.25 oz saline solution
- Grapefruit peel
- Blank note cards
Preparation
- 1.Combine grapefruit juice and saline in a chilled highball.
- 2.Fill slowly with very cold seltzer over one large cube.
- 3.Express a grapefruit peel and lay it across the rim.
- 4.Write a date on a card and set the glass on top of it.
