The Sonnet Mulled Wine Cocktail
Red wine, brandy, cinnamon, clove, orange & star anise — served warm
Shall I compare thee to a winter's warming cup?
The Story
Shakespeare wrote his sonnets by candlelight in Elizabethan London, where mulled wine — sack heated with spices — was the drink of choice for poets and playwrights. This mulled wine cocktail follows the sonnet's structure: disciplined in its spice ratios, layered in its flavors, and transcendent in its warmth. Fourteen lines of poetry, fourteen minutes of simmering — both arrive at the same place: something beautiful that lingers.
