Old Home Week
A 1" butter tart on maple shortbread with flaky salt — the most Canadian homecoming on a plate
"If I were to say one sentence that was woven through everything we did over the last thirty years, it was building a community of like-minded people who just really wanted to be in a room together." She has called CSE Old Home Week for thirty years.
Why this bite? Thirty years of Old Home Week. A butter tart — familiar, Canadian, and instantly recognized.
The Story
She never formalized the phrase into strategy; it just ran underneath everything — come back, reconnect, be introduced, be mentored, be seen. So the bite is the most domestic sweet in the country, made small: butter tart custard set on maple shortbread, salted at the last second so it does not read as sentimental. Nothing about it is impressive. Everyone in the room recognizes it immediately, which is the entire point.
