    The Story

    Off the Record is famous for the coasters — caricatures of presidents and power players drawn by Pulitzer Prize cartoonists, a wink at the room's most powerful guests. This bourbon cream soda is that wink in a glass: Bulleit, Licor 43, vanilla bean, and a Vienna lager foam that lets you draw your own face on the head. Washington takes itself seriously; the coaster does not.

    Ingredients

    • 2 oz bourbon
    • 0.5 oz Licor 43
    • 0.5 oz vanilla bean syrup
    • 1 oz Vienna lager
    • Soda water
    • Orange twist

    Preparation

    1. 1.Stir bourbon, Licor 43, and vanilla syrup over ice.
    2. 2.Strain into a rocks glass over a large cube.
    3. 3.Top with soda; float a lager foam cap.
    4. 4.Express an orange twist over the foam.
