The Rob Roy
Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth & Angostura bitters
Created at the Waldorf bar in 1894 to toast the operetta 'Rob Roy'
The Story
In 1894 the Waldorf's bartender invented a drink to celebrate the Broadway premiere of the operetta Rob Roy — a Scotch Manhattan named for the Scottish folk hero. More than a century later it remains the Waldorf's most enduring contribution to the canon: spirit-forward, burnished, and confident. Scotch, sweet vermouth, a dash of bitters, and a cherry — a toast to the night a hotel wrote itself into the bar book.
