Why this cocktail? A Beirut childhood of relentless questions. Arak from home, orange blossom, and citrus for the clarity that came later.
The Story
Before the chatbots, Karam's questions outran the adults around her, and her mother answered with encyclopedias. Beirut, the French lycée, the American University, Imperial College — each system stacked another way of reading people. This drink is that stack: an anise base from home, orange blossom for the lycée, citrus for the clarity that came later.

Ingredients
- 1.5 oz arak
- 0.75 oz lemon juice
- 0.5 oz honey syrup
- 2 dashes orange blossom water
- Crushed ice
- Mint sprig
Preparation
- 1.Shake arak, lemon, and honey syrup with ice.
- 2.Strain over crushed ice in a rocks glass.
- 3.Add orange blossom water on top.
- 4.Garnish with a mint sprig.
