    The Story

    Before the chatbots, Karam's questions outran the adults around her, and her mother answered with encyclopedias. Beirut, the French lycée, the American University, Imperial College — each system stacked another way of reading people. This drink is that stack: an anise base from home, orange blossom for the lycée, citrus for the clarity that came later.

    Ingredients

    • 1.5 oz arak
    • 0.75 oz lemon juice
    • 0.5 oz honey syrup
    • 2 dashes orange blossom water
    • Crushed ice
    • Mint sprig

    Preparation

    1. 1.Shake arak, lemon, and honey syrup with ice.
    2. 2.Strain over crushed ice in a rocks glass.
    3. 3.Add orange blossom water on top.
    4. 4.Garnish with a mint sprig.
