Conscious Inclusion
A 1" layered terrine of beet, goat cheese & pistachio — distinct ingredients embedded into one bite, impossible to pull apart
A department is a target. A value distributed across an organization is harder to isolate and attack.
Why this bite? Conscious inclusion is a posture, not a policy. This layered terrine embeds distinct parts into one inseparable whole.
The Story
In 2021, Mason brought a framework she called conscious inclusion to the ASAE board — not a department to be siloed, but an enterprise value embedded into every hiring decision, every onboarding, every question the organization asks itself. When the executive orders came, the work survived precisely because it had been distributed rather than departmentalized. This layered terrine of beet, goat cheese, and pistachio is that principle in a single inch: distinct elements pressed into one structure, each visible, none removable without taking the whole bite apart. 'It's just who we are,' she said.
