The Table She Set
A 1" warm cornbread bite topped with slow-braised collards & smoked turkey — the kitchen in Prince George's County where it all began
We ate all over the home. The kitchen. The dining room. The living room. But we were one family, one family unit.
Why this bite? Belonging began at her mother's table. This warm Southern bite is the kitchen that taught her how to gather people.
The Story
Before Michelle Mason designed belonging for fifty thousand association executives, she learned it at a table her mother set in Prince George's County, Maryland. Her mother commanded the kitchen alone while she cooked, then gathered everyone she could find — siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren — when the food was ready. 'That's what my mother brought to me,' Mason said. This warm cornbread bite with slow-braised collards and smoked turkey is that inheritance made edible: Southern, generous, prepared by hand, and meant to bring everyone to one table.
