    A Hauf & A Hauf (Zero-Proof)

Alcohol-free Scottish ale beside a nosing glass of non-alcoholic malt spirit — the ritual, for everyone

For the designated driver, the pregnant guest, the sober-curious — Scotland's welcome leaves no one out

    The Story

The Tartan Army's oldest ritual is the round, and a round is only a round if everyone can raise a glass. This is the hauf-and-a-hauf poured for all guests: a chilled half-pint of Tennent's Zero (or a non-alcoholic Scottish craft ale) beside a wee dram of Nàdar 0.5% or Lyre's Highland Malt in a proper nosing glass. Same glassware, same coaster, same slàinte mhath — the belonging is in the pour, not the proof.

    Prep: 2 minYield: 1 serve

    Ingredients

    • Half-pint Tennent's Zero or non-alcoholic Scottish ale (Drop Bear, Days Brewing)
    • 1 oz non-alcoholic malt spirit (Nàdar 0.5%, Lyre's Highland Malt or Jaunty AF)
    • Chilled half-pint glass
    • Whisky nosing glass
    • Optional: dash of smoked-tea syrup for peaty depth

    Preparation

    1. 1.Pour the non-alcoholic ale into a chilled half-pint glass with a proper foam head.
    2. 2.Pour the non-alcoholic malt spirit neat into a small nosing glass; add a dash of smoked-tea syrup if you want more peat.
    3. 3.Serve together on the same coaster as the leaded version — dram first, then the ale chaser.
    4. 4.Raise both and say slàinte mhath before the first sip.
